Handstand Evolution

An interesting video by Dave Durante where he explains his take on a proper handstand form.

Hand Balancing Made EasyHandBalancingMadeEasy_on_Amazon

Dave begins the handstand with slightly bent arms and knees bent at 90 degrees, which should represent the worst handstand form.

Instead, the feet should be together with arms and knees locked out, which really is a classic curved handstand. It’s worth mentioning that Dave consider this form to be less stable than a straight handstand, which is debatable and depends on other factors. To go from the curved to the straight handstand, press your toes up, open up the shoulders and find your “sweet spot” for balancing.

Going from the first handstand position, to the curved handstand and finally to the straight handstand does require a lot of practice, so it’s definitely not for beginners.

If you are looking for a way to perform your first handstand as fast as possible, check this out.

Just FYI- Judith Allen is FAST! Don’t let her fool you. I witnessed her speed first hand thnigot when I got to workout with the 6:30pm crowd. On another note: We are working with heavy weights these days (as you had been forewarned at the beginning of last week). Be smart about your loads/movements/weights/form. Scale down if your form is deteriorating to unsafe territory scale up if you are not working at your potential. Just. Be. Smart. And keep showing up, too. We want you to be stronger, faster, fitter. I’m seeing some great numbers posted on the board lately. Your hard work is paying off! I encourage you to post your times/weights/and rounds on this blog, too. It is just another way to keep yourself on track measure record your results. Results: Shoulder press 80-90-95(failed at #4 on 95)4 rounds (I was about 5 seconds short of finishing my 5th round) at 185# back squat 53# kbs

That makes sense! We also noticed when testing ourselves that I’m much more resistant than my husband is — that he’s more conductive. It’s interesting to think that the efficacy of grounding could have something to do with that.
